During the weekend of Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th of September, the annual summer camp of the NKA-IFK Netherlands has taken place.
This year it was held in the National Sports Centre Papendal. Around 9 o’clock on Saturday morning, all 150 participants arrived and checked in, a busy training schedule was waiting for them. The first training started at 10 o’clock where the guest instructors were introduced, Shihan Felix Ntumazah and Sensei Darren Stringer. Most of the participants were already familiar with Sensei Darren Stringer who has been the guest instructor multiple times before. Besides Shihan Felix and Sensei Darren, Shihan Jeff Whybrow also attended the camp as a special guest.
Both Saturday and Sunday were filled with multiple training sessions where the karatekas were given smaller sessions kata, combinations on pads, and kumite with different instructors. Even though the stay was in a hotel this time, the special night training could not be missed. So at 1 o’clock at night on Saturday, all karateka’s gathered to take part in the final session of the day.
Due to the COVID pandemic, the annual grading for the higher grades had been delayed for some time. For almost 30 karateka’s their grading could finally take place during this camp. On Saturday evening, all karateka’s grading for 1st Dan or higher had to take their technical kata grading and on Sunday morning it was time for all karateka’s grading for 1st kyu. On Sunday afternoon - after lots of tough sessions - the final kumite and stamina grading took place. All karatekas gave their best, while the other participants, family, and friends supported them – it was a very beautiful and respectful atmosphere. After a quick shower, it was time for the grading ceremony, and unfortunately, after that, time to say goodbye.
We again want to thank Shihan Felix Ntumazah and Sensei Darren Stringer for their contribution to this great camp. Congratulation to all candidates who passed their grading (see the list below). We would especially like to congratulate Shihan Stephano Blokland who was promoted to 5th dan.

During two very hot days with temperatures reaching up to 37C, karateka from four dojos trained hard outdoors and indoors as well. We had participants from CKMA Vaughan and Barrie, Geminos Dojo, and Mississauga Kyokushin Dojo. In total, we had 40 participants in all ranks, from white belts to black belts.
The seminar covered all aspects of Kyokushin Karate: basics, forms, and fighting.
There were 16 karatekas who successfully tested for their new ranks and belts, including two new black belts from CKMA Vaughan Dojo.
The candidates for the black belt had to fight 20 consecutive fights and they were pushed to their limits!
In the end, everyone had a good time, learned a lot, and was happy to be able to train together during these difficult times.
We are hoping to have an even better and bigger seminar next year!
Keep up the Kyokushin Spirit!

Finally, on August 14-15, 2021, a joint summer camp of KWU-Azerbaijan members and partner organizations took place on Novkhani Beach in Baku. The two-day camp was attended by 366 participants from the Azerbaijani representations of the international organizations Kyokushinkan, IFK, KWF, and IKO Matsushima, members of KWU Azerbaijan.
The exercises were divided into Dan and kyu belt ranks and Senshi group and conducted by sensei, senpai, and instructors under the guidance of KWU Azerbaijan Technical Director Vidadi Khalilov.
All participants joined the camp with great enthusiasm. They seemed to be in high spirits and enthusiastic about Kyokushin karate.
After the seminars, KWU Azerbaijan Chairman Galandar Aslanov presented Certificates to all participants. He thanked the 366 athletes and coaches who contributed to the camp and said he hoped the pandemic would end soon, that we would return to our former lives, and look forward to the days when we would be able to practice karate freely.
It is with great sadness I received the news of the passing of Shihan Furko Kalman of the Hungarian WKO Shinkyokushin Organisation.
I remember my first meeting with Shihan Kalman at the European Championships in 1982. He had the appearance of a fierce karateka but was, as many of his generation, a very humble man.
He was an important part of the popularisation of Kyokushin in the eighties and became a senior figure in the EKO Shinkyokushin.
On behalf of the IFK Executive Board and our members, I offer sincere condolences to his family and our thoughts are with his wife and the Hungarian WKO at this time.
Shihan David Pickthall
President - IFK
